Description

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Associate Director (Level 4)/Director (Level 5) of Strategic Communications to help tell the story of Penn State Football. This role will serve as the primary contact for the nationally-ranked Penn State Football program, handling the program’s student-athletes and day-to-day responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating requests for student-athletes with media, as well as “pitching” stories about the Penn State Football program to the media; directing media training for student-athletes; producing the program’s media guide, game notes, news releases and feature stories; staffing home and away events; supervising student workers as well as statistical crews and other event support personnel; facilitating social media in line with department goals; other duties as assigned. This job will be filled as a level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 4. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, website content management systems, social media platforms and Statcrew software is preferred. Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or related field plus work-related experience in communications or public relations is strongly preferred. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also required. Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance is required. Position requires considerable initiative, creativity and independence. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
