Description

Penn State Harrisburg is accepting applications for a Coordinator of Peer Tutoring within the Russell E. Horn Sr. Learning Center. Reporting to the Director of Academic Support and Advising Services, the Coordinator of Peer Tutoring will interview, select and hire undergraduate and graduate students to serve as peer tutors for courses delivered within the College. The position will manage the schedules of and approve bi-weekly payroll for 25-30 tutors; coordinate training that meets national certification standards; assist in designing and implementing evaluative processes to assess program delivery and effectiveness; supervise and provide constructive feedback to peer tutors; create and deliver presentations, resources and workshops; and advise and exchange ideas with other colleagues within the Learning Center. The Coordinator will also collaborate with faculty and staff to promote and support student success initiatives such as special study group and exam review sessions. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education, STEM or business fields preferred. Successful applicants will embody and promote the values of inclusion, equity, and pluralism in all direct work with students and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population, including minority and international students. Demonstrated experience with foundational to mid-level knowledge about adult learning theory, collaborative learning, peer tutoring, group facilitation and Supplemental Instruction (SI) is required. Project management skills are essential in order to carry out day-to-day responsibilities of the job. Supervisory experience is preferred. Occasional evening hours expected Mondays through Thursdays when fall and spring classes are in session. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
