Description

The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences seeks a positive, energetic individual with a solid working knowledge of programming, website maintenance, and database creation and management to join our busy multimedia communications team. We’re looking for someone with web development talent who enjoys learning new techniques, has a strong understanding of user experience, and loves the web. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with marketing communications, IT, and administrative staff to maintain the back end of the Huck website and solve data management problems across multiple departments. Daily focus will primarily be HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and content management system (CMS) configuration, and customization. Core CMS development platform is Craft, which utilizes PHP/MySQL. Core scripting tasks utilize MVC frameworks (Angular.js/React) and JavaScript (jQuery, vanilla javascript). You will create templates and prototypes while working with content experts and designers to complete the implementation. You’ll enjoy a team-oriented, casual atmosphere conducive to maximizing your potential, but must be comfortable discussing and contributing ideas at any stage of the process. This job will be filled as a level 1 or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Competencies critical to success are the demonstrated ability to implement one-off projects quickly while keeping long-term projects on schedule; rapid development/prototyping of front-end XHTML/CSS/JS; exposure or experience with widely used content management systems; proficiency solving cross-browser issues; and a thorough understanding of responsive web design technique. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
