Assistant Naturalists will glean techniques, skills, and hands-on experiences while serving in a supportive role for the group leader (Naturalists) during the environmentally based summer camp at Shaver’s Creek. This supportive role includes assisting with group management, the leading of games or activities, and addressing the needs of campers. Through this experience, you will learn how to create activities/games while including specific topics and become a more experienced educator. Requirements of this position include the following: Present and Engaged: Throughout the entire day, from starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing through the entire day of program until around 4:30 p.m. Physically Able: This position is working with children outdoors for up to 8 hours. We are outdoors regardless of rain, heat, mud, and rough terrain. Two-Adult Policy: Complies with remaining in eye shot and ear shot of another adult at all times. You will never be alone with a participant. Taking Care of Yourself: Camp features rewarding experiences and long days. It is paramount to everyone around you that you are eating enough, staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, and decompressing appropriately in a way that works for you. A qualified candidate will have a passion for working with children, patience, a plethora of flexibility, be enthusiastic, want to grow, want to work as a team, and foster a desire to make their days the best they can be every single time. You will receive CPR and First Aid certification as part of training. The summer camp season runs from June 1 through August 7, 2020. Staff need to be able to commit at least through August 1, 2020. Hours worked per week will be 40. There is no housing available with this position. To apply, submit your cover letter, resume, and list of three references.
