The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Development is currently seeking a Financial Assistant to provide support and guidance to department faculty, staff, and students while working in conjunction with the College’s research and finance offices. Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, providing financial support for the department’s sponsored projects, research grants, endowments, gifts, and general funds. This includes pre- and post-award research administration by providing budget projections, monitoring expenditures in compliance with sponsor specifications, and preparing budgets and other elements of the proposal process; providing faculty support, including assisting faculty in managing individual cost centers, grants, subcontracts, start-up funds, and submission of technical and final reports; developing and analyzing budgets for research grants and proposals; monitoring and reporting financial activities; monitor end dates of projects/funds; processing and approving transactions in Penn State systems (e.g., IBIS/SIMBA, iTwo, ERS, eBuy, WorkDay, WorkLion, SIMS); tracking faculty salaries and summer salary allocations in coordination with various units and colleges; creating salary sheets and review of payroll vouchers; making travel arrangements and processing reimbursements using Employee Reimbursement System (ERS) for employees and students; responsible for purchasing on all research, general, endowment, and miscellaneous budgets and reconciliation of purchasing cards; the processing of participant incentives; assisting in developing and analyzing budgets for research grants and proposals; serving as backup for other business processes and acting as delegate or proxy as needed. This job will be filled as a level 3 or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Graduate of the Penn State ACOR Certification and Education Series (ACES) program, knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, and proficiency in the use of database applications for analysis and reporting is preferred. Requires close attention to detail, accuracy, the ability to work well with time sensitive tasks and prioritize, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to multitask and respond professionally in challenging situations is essential. Must be able to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a high functioning team, as well as with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and others. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
