Description

Penn State Lehigh Valley is accepting applications for multiple Resident Peer/Mentor Tutor positions for the FA20/SP21 academic year for the STEM Mentoring Grant program. Members of the program will serve as Mentors, Peer Tutors, Peer Advisers, allies, and support network for incoming Freshmen. The candidates should be able to serve in a small group (typically 3-5 mentees) and class settings for incoming Freshmen by supporting, encouraging, and assisting each student individually with their interpersonal, career and academic needs. Resident Mentors will be embedded in the following courses and will be required to work closely with Professors/Instructors: Math 140, Math 22, Math 26, Math 21, Chem 110 (2 sections), Physics 211 and Bio 3. They also should communicate regularly with Mentees and Supervisors through weekly face-to-face meetings and electronic communication modes. The minimum requirements of this position are undergraduate student status, a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher, a grade of B+ or higher (a grade of A is preferred) in any course being tutored, and two faculty or staff recommendations. Candidates for this position will complete mandatory tutor training, register for a one (1) credit, seven week tutoring course in spring 2020, adhere to Penn State’s Academic Integrity policy, agree to act appropriately in terms of communication, punctuality, and collegiality; and agree to act in a professional manner respecting all types of individuals in our diverse university community.
