The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applications and nominations for the position of Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian at the Nesbitt Library, Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The campus library seeks a proactive, enthusiastic, and creative individual to engage and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students around current and emerging technologies for learning and research. Duties of this position include providing an introduction to the services and resources in both the physical and online library spaces for our first year students; using exhibitions, public programming, social networking, and other innovative techniques to engage the student community; identifying and promoting the use of emerging technologies throughout the campus community; and collaborating with campus partners on outreach to the community. Other duties include reference services (both virtual and in-person) and library instruction. Some evening and/or weekend work is required. This position will be filled as a tenure-line faculty librarian position. Preferred qualification: at least 1 year post-graduate experience in an academic setting. Penn State Wilkes-Barre is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses statewide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 500 students; about 20% are adult learners. Nine baccalaureate degrees are offered as well as the coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors. Students and faculty at Penn State Wilkes-Barre have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere with a low student/faculty ratio. The Nesbitt Library, built in 2008, is a thriving and vibrant hub for students, and a gateway to the resources of the Penn State University Libraries system.
