Penn State Lehigh Valley is accepting applications for multiple STEM Peer Mentor/Tutor positions for Summer 2020 for the STEM Inclusion and Innovation Program. Members of the program will serve as mentors, peer tutors, peer advisers, allies, and support network for community college students from July 1 - August 14, 2020, which is Summer Session II at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The candidates should be able to serve in small groups (typically 3-5 mentees) and class settings by supporting, encouraging, and assisting each student individually with their interpersonal, career and academic needs. STEM Peer Mentors will be embedded in summer STEM courses and will be required to work closely with professors/instructors. Mentors should also communicate regularly with mentees and supervisors through weekly face-to-face meetings and electronic communication modes. The minimum requirements of this position are Penn State undergraduate student status, a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher, and a grade of B+ or higher (a grade of A is preferred) in math and science courses. Candidates for this position will complete mandatory tutor training, register for a (1) credit seven-week tutoring course in spring 2020, adhere to Penn State’s Academic Integrity policy, agree to act appropriately in terms of communication, punctuality, and collegiality. Candidates will also agree to act in a professional manner, respecting all types of individuals in our diverse university community. Availability during course times is a consideration in the selection process. Courses will be offered between 9 am and 12:30 pm during Summer Session II. Hourly Wage = $10/hr.
