Description

The Amsalem Lab in the Department of Entomology at Penn State is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to work on sterility inducing mechanisms in social insects. The study involves identifying and examining the role of pheromones involved in social behavior and the genetic mechanisms underlying their regulation. The candidate will further use genetic techniques to manipulate genes associated with production and perception of pheromones. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in entomology or closely related field. Applicants should have a strong background in either molecular biology (e.g., quantitative real-time PCR and techniques associated with RNA interference) and bioinformatics (e.g., RNAseq analysis) or/and chemical ecology (e.g., GC/MS and EAG). Previous work with bees/social insects and publication record in the above fields, as well as excellent communication and writing skills are strongly desired. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field and be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire.
