The College of Agricultural Sciences, Penn State Extension – York County seeks to hire a Summer 4-H Assistant/Intern. This individual will serve York County and work directly with the 4-H Educators to provide support in the general 4-H youth development program. The Summer Assistant will assist in planning, implementing and/or evaluating 4-H events, activities and projects with youth at local, area and state 4-H events, as well as various day camps and overnight camp. The Assistant will also provide support at traditional 4-H events by recording registration, chaperoning, conducting workshops and assisting with management of shows and contests. The Assistant will write news releases, social media posts and assist with general marketing to increase public awareness and participation. This job opportunity introduces students to career opportunities within Penn State Extension. This position requires excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to plan and teach activities and educational programs. Must be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults. The 4-H Summer Assistant works under the supervision of the York County 4-H Educator. This is a summer position beginning in mid-May and ending in mid-August, with some flexibility depending upon availability of the applicant. Preference will be given to applicants with undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences or other related fields. Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year of study and be enrolled as a college student at time of application. Previous experience with the 4-H program is preferred. This position requires the applicant to operate a motor vehicle as a part of the job duties. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks to work with minors. Successful candidate must be available for a varied work schedule that may include daytime, evening, and weekend assignments.
