Penn State Harrisburg`s School of Humanities invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position in Studio Art and Design to begin August 2020. An MFA in drawing, painting, or design, or a related terminal degree is required by the date of application for the position. The successful applicant will teach 2-D design, painting, and drawing. Other teaching responsibilities may include intermediate and advanced classes in drawing, painting, and figure drawing. Primary research areas for the position may include design, painting, drawing, printmaking, new media and installation. Other research areas may include 3-D design, computer design, sculpture, art history, digital humanities, and interdisciplinary humanities. College teaching experience is required. All faculty are expected to collaborate effectively across campus, embrace experiential learning and student engagement, and be active members of the broader campus community. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching and promoting student success in the liberal arts, and will demonstrate evidence of an active exhibition record as well as an in-depth knowledge of artistic media. Fluency in the practice and teaching of traditional painting and drawing techniques and material methodologies, pedagogical openness to exploring media beyond conventional practice, knowledge of contemporary visual theory, and the ability to integrate contemporary creative concepts into the undergraduate classroom are essential. Penn State Harrisburg is located in Pennsylvania`s state capital region near the Penn State College of Medicine and Hershey Medical Center. It is within a two-three hour drive from larger metropolitan areas such as Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia, PA.
