Description

The Cognitive Neuroscience of Creativity Lab at The Pennsylvania State University, led by Dr. Roger Beaty, is hiring a full-time Lab Manager. The start date is flexible, but the position will ideally be filled by March 1, 2020. The Lab Manager will have the opportunity to work on a range of behavioral and brain imaging experiments of human cognitive abilities, mostly relating to creative thinking and problem solving (e.g., see beatylab.org). The lab incorporates neuroimaging (fMRI), neuromodulation (tACS), and psychometric tools to examine fundamental cognitive mechanisms (e.g., memory, attention, and cognitive control) involved in creative thinking and related cognitive abilities. This work leverages the University’s broad resources, including a research-dedicated 3T MRI facility and human electrophysiology facility at the Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences Imaging Center (SLEIC; http://www.imaging.psu.edu/). SLEIC is also equipped with MR-compatible neuromodulation devices for concurrent tACS-fMRI and tDCS-fMRI experiments, as well as an MR-compatible drawing tablet. The Lab Manager will be responsible for: recruiting research participants; collecting, processing, and analyzing behavioral, fMRI, and/or EEG data; aiding in human subject protocols, consent forms, and annual IRB approval; and general lab management duties. The position will also involve overseeing a growing team of undergraduate and graduate students. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Degrees in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field, plus past experience in labs that conduct fMRI or EEG studies, will be considered a strong plus. Other highly desired skills include experience processing neuroimaging data (e.g., Linux, MATLAB, SPM), programming experimental tasks (e.g., E-prime, PsychoPy), and conducting statistical analysis (e.g., R, Mplus). The successful candidate will have strong computational skills and a willingness to learn additional skills related to data processing and management. The skills learned through this experience will be particularly valuable for individuals who intend to apply to graduate programs in psychology or cognitive neuroscience.
