Description

The Eberly College of Science is seeking an academic advisor for the Forensic Science Program (FRNSC) as part of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department (BMB). The successful candidate will have a strong background in academic advising with a proven track record and commitment to serving diverse student populations. Duties will include providing academic advising to assigned students, assisting students in navigating University policies and procedures and program curriculum, and coordinating special events and programs which directly assist undergraduate students. The advisor will provide guidance and recommendations to the faculty pertaining to curriculum implementation; identify potential scheduling problems and implications for course changes. The advisor will assist in Program (FEPAC) accreditation review. The advisor will assist with New Student Orientation, meet with parents, advise students, and make presentations. Lastly, the advisor may be expected to teach a first-year seminar for students interested in forensic science as needed. The successful candidate will work closely with the Associate Head for Undergraduate Affairs in BMB, the Director of the Forensic Science Program, and the Director of the Science Advising Office to support the mission of academic advising in the College of Science. We are seeking an individual who is committed to working with College and Program advising teams to provide high quality service to students and who will work to enhance the climate for the diverse student population in the College. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants with a science background are preferred. Other preferred skills include attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication, and knowledge of Starfish, LionPATH and CANVAS as they relate to advising and first year seminar. Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint are desirable. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
