Description

The Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences’ Digital Education and Online Learning team has an opening for an Instructional Designer. This position will support undergraduate and graduate online course development, and will work with faculty to plan, design, maintain and revise online courses in Canvas. Candidates must have considerable instructional design experience, knowledge of online learning theory and pedagogical principles, strong written communication skills, the ability to review material for grammatical/spelling errors, and strong wordsmithing skills to enhance student comprehension of written material. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred skills include a background in teaching or designing engaging educational experiences for learners, and experience designing and revising online courses in accordance with quality assurance standards. The candidate must have solid experience with Learning Management Systems, multimedia development processes, accessibility and copyright requirements, as well as a working knowledge of HTML. Excellent verbal skills and strong teamwork/interpersonal skills are essential; it is vital that this position builds and maintains positive, effective working relationships with clients in the college and within the work unit. This candidate must be able to handle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment and apply creative thinking to develop new solutions. The candidate will also be expected to use the team’s project management system, follow standard processes, and contribute to ongoing improvement and documentation of the team’s procedures. This position is located on site. This position is funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of reappointment.
