The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) is seeking an ICDS-ACI Cyber Security Engineer. This position will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $60 million Penn State investment in research cyberinfrastructure. Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. With ICDS, you will have the opportunity to support this groundbreaking work. As the ICDS-ACI Cyber Security Engineer, you will: provide engineering guidance in monitoring, maintaining and enhancing the security posture of the ICDS Advanced CyberInfrastructure (ICDS-ACI). You will work with University constituents (Faculty and Researchers) to research, specify, design, develop, implement, and operate secure computing and data infrastructure, including domain-specific security expertise for networking, High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, high capacity storage and scientific software applications necessary to support sponsored research. This is primarily a technical role, but some involvement in security policy and compliance is expected. Job duties also include operational security tasks such as monitoring and analysis of ICDS-ACI security systems, including security logs, antivirus agents, and vulnerability management tools. You will be responsible for testing and automating where possible the testing of security requirements in the ICDS-ACI environment. You will also serve as primary liaison to the Office of Information Security (OIS) and will work closely with OIS and ICDS technical staff to investigate, respond, and remediate security events. Responsibilities also include updating and enhancing the System Security Plan (SSP) and other relevant security documentation artifacts as well as participating in compliance validation and audit events. This job will be filled as a Cyber Security Systems Engineer 2. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Our desired qualifications and skills include: Skills in some or all of the following areas and technologies are desirable, but not required: Knowledge in security standards and governance such as NIST 800-171, 800-53, etc. Linux system hardening; monitoring and log analysis tools such as Splunk; Scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.); Automated configuration management software (e.g. Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, etc.), automation, testing, and orchestration tools and practices; virtualization services (VMWare, RHEV, OpenStack); Candidates must also have impeccable ethics and integrity with a strong work ethic as well as strong interpersonal and written skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
