Description

The laboratory of Dr. Shaun Mahony in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at Penn State is seeking a Research Project Manager to establish and operate a laboratory initiative in the area of regulatory genomics. The position will involve independently establishing a new laboratory facility, and leading operations within that laboratory. Once the laboratory is operational, the successful applicant will design and execute regulatory genomics projects in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. Day-to-day operations will involve planning and costing experiments, executing or overseeing the execution of defined protocols, training and managing laboratory technicians, managing interactions with research collaborators, maintaining appropriate documentation relating to the operation of the laboratory, maintaining laboratory expenditure budgets, and ensuring program compliance with government regulations, University policies, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements. This job will be filled as a level 2 or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Prior experience in managing the operations of an experimental laboratory in the biological sciences, and in-depth knowledge of regulatory genomics assay protocols and their execution are required. Prior experience in training and managing research staff in the execution of experimental protocols is also required.
