Description

The Power and Energy Systems Transition Laboratory (PESTL, energysystems.psu.edu) in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar with a quantitative focus on the dynamics of energy system change. PESTL is a new research endeavor at Penn State that catalyzes and supports basic research in energy system change in the face of uncertainty. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work closely with faculty in the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering and the Department of Geosciences to develop new modeling approaches to evaluate the dynamics of energy system resiliency and economics in the face of uncertain technological and regulatory change, as well as extreme events. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. by the time of appointment and will have a demonstrated publication record in optimization, systems engineering, decision science, economics or a similar field. The candidate must also demonstrate a passion for energy research. The Scholar in this position will work with the PESTL faculty directors on model development, help to supervise doctoral students, and may also participate in grant-writing. This is a fixed-term position, funded for one year from the date of hire, with excellent possibility of refunding. Questions or inquiries may be directed to Professor Seth Blumsack, PESTL Director, at blumsack@psu.edu. The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences takes an active role in building a talented, inclusive and culturally competent workforce. We understand that our shared future is guided by basic principles of fairness, mutual respect and commitment to each other. Applicants should provide evidence, either woven through their application materials or as a separate diversity statement, of a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusive excellence and belonging and of engagement which creates an inclusive environment in their department/workplace.
