Penn State Law and the School of International Affairs (SIA), two professional schools co-located in University Park, are seeking a dynamic, innovative marketing and communications leader to serve as Director of Marketing and Communications for both schools. Reporting to the dean of Penn State Law and SIA and serving as a critical member of the schools’ leadership teams, this position is responsible for designing, planning, and executing a strategic digital media, social media, and marketing plan that will be effective in a rapidly evolving marketing and communications environment. The position supervises four marketing and communications professionals responsible for fast-paced, responsive communications that advances both schools. Key responsibilities include: producing regular and effective social media and news stories that highlight faculty, staff, students, and programs; developing and disseminating of marketing and admissions materials; leading a website redesign project and updating the websites; and supporting events and alumni outreach. Working closely with a hands-on dean who highly values marketing and communications and is active on social media, this position will lead the development of the brands of the two schools and craft strategic, data-driven approaches that advance the schools’ strategic priorities, attract highly qualified students and faculty, and raise the schools’ profiles and reputations. The Penn State School of International Affairs (SIA) offers a two-year master of international affairs degree program as well as several one-year resident certificate programs. The SIA faculty consists of 15 full-time faculty members (in addition to 33 affiliate faculty members across Penn State State) with broad research and teaching interests across the spectrum of international affairs. This job will be filled as a level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 4. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and innovative marketing professional with experience developing digital and social media strategies in a fast-paced environment, leading teams, advising senior management on communications strategies and tactics, and analyzing data for continuous improvement. Applicants should be ambitious and entrepreneurial leaders with a record of executing successful digital media, social media, and marketing plans and a desire to stay abreast of emerging trends and technology. Hands-on experience in Google Ads, paid and organic social media, and marketing analytics is required. Candidates should also exhibit refined and poised communications skills and have the ability to interact meaningfully, confidently, and effectively with professionals of all levels of experience and authority.
