Description

The Division of Science and Engineering at Penn State Abington is seeking one or two undergraduate student leaders at the Abington campus to serve as Peer Mentors for BIOL 110 for Spring semester 2020. The Peer Mentors will play an important role in helping first-year students transition to college science courses. Primary responsibilities will include providing guidance to students enrolled in BIOL 110; answering student questions; assisting students and instructors during lectures and/or labs; facilitating communication between instructors and students; and participating in mentoring sessions. Peer Mentors will actively engage with students while providing information, instruction, and a welcoming atmosphere. Strong applicants will possess maturity, sound judgment, and good problem-solving skills and be personable and organized. It is expected that Peer Mentors are able to work with a diverse group of students. Second year or advanced standing status required at time of application. Successful completion of BIOL 110 and at least one of BIOL 220W, 230W, or 240W or the equivalent are required. Peer Mentors must be available throughout the entire Spring 2020 semester during at least two of the following time periods: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 11:15 AM-12:05 PM. Monday, Wednesday or Friday: 12:20 PM-1:10 PM. Friday: 8:30 AM-10:25 AM. Peer Mentors will receive $10/hour for the semester.
