Description

The Facilities and Instrumentation Department, located in the Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Office (FDAO), in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking an Engineering Support Specialist needed to assist with the design, fabrication, and support of the FDAO water tunnel and field testing. This position will provide both mechanical and electrical technical assistance for projects within the FDAO. Responsibilities include: backup support for facility operators; balance machine operations; hardware inventory; calibrations; mechanical and electrical installations and fabrication of research prototype hardware and sensors; and PLC implementation and designs. This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher in a technical program or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. An Associate’s degree in Aerospace Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electronics, or Electrical Technology is desired. Preferred experience includes: proficiency with mechanical system design; balance machine operation; instrumentation calibration; sensor installation; experimental piping and machining; and prior experience in an R&D testing environment and computer programming. Prior military training or experience is highly desired. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated proficiency in a mechanical field, mechanical assembly, electronics systems, PLC control systems, and experimental instrumentation. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
