We are seeking students to serve as Penn State Educational Partnership Program (PEPP) Learning Assistants (PLAs) for an afterschool tutoring and mentoring program in Reading High School (grades 9-12). Responsibilities include providing academic assistance (tutoring, homework help) in core courses (math, science, writing, etc.), acting as a role model, promoting higher education and preparing activities for engagement each week. The PLA requires patience, good oral and written communication skills, listening skills and creativity skills to find ways for each student to learn. To apply you MUST be available at least one program day per week during program hours. Transportation to Reading School High School is your responsibility. Students able to drive and willing to carpool a plus. Carpooling with other PLAs is typically possible. To be considered for this position, you must be a full-time Penn State Berks student with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher and in good conduct standing with the University. Shift: Based on your schedule, PLAs elect to work either two or four hours per week at Reading High School on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
