Description

The Instrumentation and Controls Department in the Energy and Power Controls Division of the Undersea Systems Office within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking Research Faculty to join our team. This position is part of a design team and is responsible for the analysis, design and development of a metal combustion thermal source as part of a hybrid power system including thermal modeling, design of structural hardware, and evaluation testing. This position is also responsible to lead or assist with subsystem test planning, test execution, and test documentation. Faculty rank is commensurate with education and experience. A Master’s degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline required. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is ideal. The following areas of experience are preferred: proficiency with modeling tools for CFD, FEA, chemical kinetics, or thermodynamics; proficiency with mechanical design, geometric tolerances and familiarity with material selection; leadership; and program management. The following areas are required: combustion theory and its relation to metal powders; thermal testing; and strong communication skills, including technical writing. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
