Description

The Mechanical Systems Department in the Vehicles and Unmanned Systems Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking motivated and talented engineers whose primary function will be to design, build, and test hardware for undersea applications. Responsibilities include: Leading teams through the development process, managing budget, scheduling and communication across the organizational structure, and design of structures, mechanisms, actuation systems, and bearing systems. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is preferred. Prior experience with finite element analysis is desired. The following skills are necessary: Proficiency in completing free body diagrams; using hand calculations to calculate forces and resultant stresses on structures; mechanical aptitude; 3D modeling; and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Occasional travel to support meetings and testing is required. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
