Description

The Mechanical Systems Department in the Vehicles and Unmanned Systems Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking motivated and talented engineers whose primary function will be to design, build, and test hardware for undersea applications. Typical responsibilities may include design of structures, mechanisms, actuation systems, and bearing systems. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher , or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is preferred. Experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is desired. Proficiency in completing free body diagrams; using hand calculations to calculate forces and resultant stresses on structures; strong mechanical aptitude; and 3D solid modeling is required. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
