Resident Assistants (RAs) provide support to student participants who are enrolled in the Early Reach Academy located at Penn State Harrisburg, PA. RA must have successfully completed at least one year of college and be currently enrolled or completed an undergraduate degree. The Early Reach Academy is a two-week experience for high school students with disabilities. All RAs play a vital role in developing a positive, safe and enriching program experience for every student. RAs work closely with the students, resident assistant directors (RAD), resident director (RD), Penn State staff and OVR staff. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing 20-25 students in dormitory setting, chaperoning activities both on and off campus; possibly assisting staff with preparation, organization, and instructions of activities; sharing mealtime supervision and support of students; attending scheduled training sessions and staff meetings and meeting paperwork deadlines; enforce curfew and lights out; report illnesses, accidents, behavior problems, maintenance issues and cases of loss/damaged/stolen property to resident assistant directors and resident director; keep accurate record of names, room assignments, activity set-up, and student’s schedules. Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or in written format. Ability to relate to students and staff in a professional and productive manner. Coordinate and implement planned activities. Ability to travel independently while performing all job duties. Ability to independently complete all assignments, responsibilities and duties listed above. Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling information and notes pertaining to students. Candidate must be able to walk for extended amounts of time, have the ability to lift between 25-50 pounds with or without accommodation, and possibly participate in intense physical activities. Employment will require attendance at the RA training orientation days from July 11 – 12, 2020. Daily work will vary based on the Early Reach Academy Schedule. On campus housing, meals, and parking passes will be provided by Penn State Harrisburg. Successful applicants must pass or show proof of the three publically available clearances (PA State Police, Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprinting, and successful completion of three Penn State online compliance modules).
