The Department of Economics in the College of the Liberal Arts is looking for an energetic and organized individual to manage conferences and workshops. The successful candidate would be responsible for the management and oversight of three weekly workshops held during the fall and spring semesters. This includes working with a diverse group of visitors and faculty to secure necessary visa paperwork, manage lodging, itineraries and secure travel arrangements. The person in this position is also responsible for processing all travel reimbursements for these weekly workshops and working with department management on workshop budgets. The person in this position is also the coordinator for several conferences held throughout the fall and spring semesters. This individual would need to interpret University policies in terms of working with outside vendors, secure the necessary contracts for space use, manage rooming lists, and coordinate itineraries. This would also include creating conference budgets and monitoring expenses for management approval. Would attend start of conference to ensure all arrangements are in place and to register attendees. This position would manage the seminar and conference websites as well as work with faculty to update research pages. This position would also assist with faculty recruitment process. The position will also learn and understand the J-1 process and University visiting scholar process to assist when needed. This position would also act as faculty support when needed to assist with any research support needs, course needs, as well as book travel and process reimbursements. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of university budget policies, travel procedures and guidelines as well as risk management procedures for vendor usage is preferred. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require minimal evening and weekend hours to register attendees depending on conference schedules. The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences The candidate must also possess exceptional oral and written communication skills and have excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft products and web editing experience, preferably with Plone.
