Description

The Applied Communications Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking undergraduate students to implement, program, and test various RF, Sensor, and Internet of Things (IOT) devices. The hardware circuits and software programs will implement typical uses and examples as provided by manufacturers and distributors such as SparkFun and Adafruit. The successful candidates will build the circuit using best practices and program the devices as recommended by the relevant reference. The circuit will then be tested as per the example or as devised by the individual, with ARL engineering guidance. Documentation in the form of schematics and assembly drawings with notes, programming code with comments, pictures, and a concise description of the operation will be generated. Desired skills include experience with: Arduino hardware and software; microcontrollers (PIC, Atmel, etc.); Raspberry Pi; C; C++; Python; soldering; general lab instrument use; a desire for hands-on work; electrical breadboarding; understanding of electrical schematics; and LabVIEW. The applicant should be a freshman, sophomore, or junior in a related engineering field and will work up to 20 hours per week during the spring and fall semesters and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. The selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
