Opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Photonics and Quantum Technology Laboratory led by Dr. Sahin K. Ozdemir (see the publication list and research interests at https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=LfrKI2kAAAAJ&hl=en), in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics at The Pennsylvania State University is available for highly motivated Ph.D. scientists having intellectual curiosity and are ready to undertake creative research for delivering innovative photonic solutions to complex problems. Candidates with strong experimental background in optics and biophysics/photonics are sought to join leading efforts in the development and application of novel microresonator-based optical technologies. The successful candidate will have access to the nanofabrication and materials characterization labs at the Materials Research Institute (https://www.mri.psu.edu/) and to the facilities at Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (http://www.lsc.psu.edu/) and contribute to projects that include micro/nano-fabrication, biophotonics, and nonlinear optics. Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in Physics or Optical Sciences; proven track record in one or more of the fields mentioned above; proven experience in hands-on photonics and biophysics experiments, and fabrication of nano-and micro-photonic devices; advanced programming and simulation skills in Matlab, LabView, and Comsol are highly desirable; excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills; and ability to work independently, both under supervision and as a part of a team.
