Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT), a unit within Penn State Information Technology, is accepting applications for a Research Project Manager who can leverage quantitative data analysis strategies to fuel our research-to-practice cycle in evolving and novel ways. The mission of the research team is to seek evidence of ways that technology impacts teaching and learning. We use that evidence to inform our unit’s ongoing work with faculty and in service to university-wide strategic initiatives. The person in this position will contribute to that mission by working with both simple and complex sets of educational data to explain and make recommendations about the impact of technology on student learning and on the overall teaching and learning experience at Penn State. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with TLT staff who are actively working on projects related to open educational resources, artificial intelligence, technology-enhanced learning spaces, immersive experiences, and other creative learning initiatives, all designed to improve the Penn State student experience. If you meet the requirements below and have a strong desire to engage in meaningful research directly linked to the students and faculty at one of the top public universities in the world, we invite your application. Responsibilities for this position include: identifying and executing research projects, in collaboration with faculty and other TLT units; building psychometrically sound instruments for data collection, as necessary; obtaining, managing, transforming, and analyzing data, including sensitive data; collaborating with faculty on sponsored projects, such as proposal writing, research design, and evaluation; working collaboratively on diverse teams that may include other researchers, faculty members, data scientists and analysts, learning designers, media developers, and graduate students; and building and maintaining relationships with faculty and other stakeholders across the university, both at University Park and at other campus locations. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The desired candidate will have a strong academic background (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Education (e.g., higher education, higher education policy and strategy, learning design, learning sciences, digital learning), social science research, or other disciplines where the training and experiences are relevant. Experience with data visualization is also a plus. Preferred qualifications include: record of publication in scientific, peer-reviewed outlets; participation in grant-funded work; teaching experience in higher education. Required qualifications include: documented experience conducting quantitative research studies, excellent oral and written communication skills; an ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently; and a passion for bringing creativity and hard work to the task of solving interesting problems, especially in the realm of teaching and learning in higher education. Please submit a cover letter and CV.
