The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is searching for skilled Information Technology Support Specialists to provide general computing support in both classified and unclassified computing environments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: provide computing support for users with computer hardware, peripherals, computer configurations, and software, to include orientation, guidance, application support, diagnosis, and resolution of issues; provide infrastructure/cable plant administration and patch computer/phone network ports to switches, as well as other cable infrastructure-related administration; perform hardware/software evaluation, and research/provide recommendations for both internal ITS and external customers; participate in process documentation and improvement efforts, and provide preservation of documentation; may coordinate or lead projects; and may develop and provide basic or intermediate user training. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate’s degree in Information Technology or a related field is desired. Preferred experience areas include: Windows systems support in a domain configuration; end-user application support (Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other common office or engineering apps); disk/file/email encryption support; and the use, support, experience working in classified work environments, and administration of Macintosh and/or Linux systems. Prior experience in research or government setting, an active security clearance and experience working in a classified environment is strongly preferred. The following are required experience areas: Use, support, and administration of networked Windows systems in a classified, military or governmental environment; diagnosis and repair of computer systems; and diagnosing issues with network configurations from the endpoint. Prior success in a customer service-related role, and a keen attention to detail are necessary for this position. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle background check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
