Description

The Penn State School of Theatre is searching for a Master Voice Teacher to teach various levels of Voice, Speech, and Accents and Dialects in both our BFA Acting and BFA Musical Theatre programs. We seek someone with teaching experience in a process-oriented methodology--a coherent, tested pedagogy. While Meisner and Stanislavski principles underpin much of the School`s work, we aim to equip our students with experience in and working knowledge of many methodologies and engage the students in the art of wrestling with the connections and apparent contradictions of various approaches. Expertise and experience in coaching on productions (both plays and musicals) is expected. This position will be involved in the production season--coaching, directing, creation of projects, mentoring, for example. Expertise in several areas and approaches such as Voiceover, Accents and Dialects, IPA/Phonetics, Linklater, Berry, Rodenburg, Alexander or Feldenkrais work, Fitzmaurice work, and Theatre for Social Change is of interest. Sought are applicants with these qualities: a coherent, tested pedagogy; the desire and ability to work within a team structure in which acting, movement, and other performance faculty share responsibilities for student development; the ability to help students move in increasingly self-reliant steps from script to performance; and a commitment to undergraduate students and a diverse faculty and student body. A terminal degree is preferred. Salary, rank, and tenure status will be commensurate with experience. Applicants should upload a cover letter, cv, teaching philosophy, and list of 3-5 references.
