Description

A NIH-funded Postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Shengyu Yang’s lab at the Penn State College of Medicine to study the role of mitochondrial metabolism in cancer metastasis. Our goal is to reveal how the dysregulated actin cytoskeleton in metastatic cancer cells controls mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation by remodeling the mitochondrial actin filaments. This project is built on our recent discoveries that the actin cytoskeleton remodeling in metastatic cancer cells is able to control mitochondrial metabolism through regulating the homeostasis of mtDNA and the biogenesis of mitochondrial respiratory chain. Please see our recent publications for more information (Lin et al, 2019, Cell Reports, PMID: 31509745; Lin et al, 2019, EMBO Mol Med, PMID: 31633874). Biochemistry, cell biology, live cell imaging techniques, genetically engineered mouse models and patient-derived organoids / xenografts will be employed in the study. Successful applicant will be a highly motivated recent graduate with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and will have expertise in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related fields. Experience with fluorescence imaging, super-resolution microscopy and genetically engineered mouse models will be desirable but not required. The research in Dr. Yang’s lab is well funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense and the Elsa U. Pardee Foundation. The Penn State College of Medicine Campus is located in Hershey, PA. Hershey is a quiet, family friendly town with an affordable living expense and easy access to major metropolitan areas (e.g. Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York City). Please upload cover letter, CV and contact information for three references. Lab webpage: https://sites.psu.edu/yanglab/
