Description

Creating Transformative Experiences: The Art of Student Engagement and Engaged Scholarship. This is a two-year research study funded by the Student Engagement Network and Vice President of Undergraduate Research at Penn State University. See articles in Penn State News at the following links: https://news.psu.edu/story/569023/2019/04/15/academics/hogan-named-scholar-student-engagement-network-faculty-academy https://news.psu.edu/story/582130/2019/07/30/academics/five-added-student-engagement-networks-faculty-academy Study Objectives: We seek to understand the potential contributions of the arts in inspiring students in higher education domestically and internationally to become psychologically involved, connected to and passionate about learning. This research will create and disseminate knowledge specifically pertaining to the arts, student engagement and engaged scholarship by linking select theories to effective strategies, policies, practices, tools, metrics, outcomes and impacts. Also, storytelling will be employed as captured by video to document the student experience throughout the life cycle of the research project. We also intend to document interviews and focus groups with study subjects – students, faculty, staff and recent alumni (i.e., graduated with 5 years) - at Penn State University and collaborative research partners including domestic and international institutions of higher education. Project Description: We are seeking a student videographer to provide leadership and technical expertise to coordinate, record, edit and produce the story telling component of the research study. The individual should have an interest in the following areas: Research; The arts; Student Engagement; Engaged Scholarship (i.e., out of classroom learning); Diversity, equity, inclusion, and civil discourse. Our strong preference is to have the same student videographer for the two-year study. Final Deliverables: A compelling short mini documentary film on the research study including interviews with the Principle Investigator (Dr. Tom C. Hogan), research sponsors, students, faculty, 2 staff, and recent alums at Penn State University and collaborative research institutions. Also, we desired the creation of short 30 – 60 second videos that can be posted on the Student Engagement Network website. Applicants are required to upload a cover letter, resume, previous video work as evidence of their skills and experience. Review of applications will begin on November 8, 2019.
