The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI.psu.edu) is seeking an Electrical Engineer experienced in design, specification, and maintenance and operation of low and medium voltage power distribution and generation systems to join our Engineering Services Team. Responsibilities include reviewing electrical distribution and generation system designs, power system studies, testing and maintenance specifications, lighting and control system design, and safety standards. The successful candidate will interact with skilled labor personnel, design professionals, facility administrators, and government agency executives. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Additional years of experience strongly preferred. Experience required for this position is proficiency in some or all of the following: technical analysis, calculations, and evaluation of designs for complex electrical power and lighting distribution and generation systems; protective relay schemes and coordination settings; short circuit and arc flash assessments specifically using SKM Powertools; specifications and estimates for electrical engineering aspects of low and medium voltage power systems with an emphasis on reliability and NETA maintenance and testing; energy conservation as it relates to electrical consumption including lighting systems and renewable energy sources; control systems including programmable logic controllers, SCADA systems, and variable frequency drives; and demonstrated knowledge of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 70B Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance, and NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Registration as a professional engineer required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for preparing reports, providing education presentations in the form of short courses and workshops, and collaborating with site maintenance personnel to evaluate field conditions and assist in the resolution of operational problems and deficiencies in low and medium voltage systems. The position is based in State College, PA; however, travel throughout PA is required (day and occasional overnight). This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Security clearances required for access to client sites. United States citizenship is required. The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute has been providing technical assistance to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania facilities since 1947. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding
