The Penn State Abington Office of Global Programs, International Student and Scholar Services is seeking a diverse team of aspiring undergraduate student leaders at the Penn State Abington campus to serve as International Student Orientation Leaders (iSOL). As a part of the International Student Orientation Team, International Student Orientation Leaders play a key role in providing a quality transitional experience for all incoming first-year students through the International Student Orientation (ISO) program. International Orientation Leaders assist incoming Penn State students as well as their parents and family members by providing an introduction to the campus and its resources, leading conversations about the transition from high school to college and acting as a representative of The Pennsylvania State University. Primary responsibilities include providing general assistance with the college transition by facilitating small group discussions on subjects including: involvement on campus, Penn State systems such as LionPath, Webmail, Canvas, etc, diversity and inclusion, academics, health and safety, personal responsibility, and responsible decision making. iSOLs must work cooperatively within a team of fellow student leaders to accomplish tasks, respond to questions from students and families about university life using personal experiences in a professional manner, and encourage students to establish meaningful connections with other first-year students. Members of the International Orientation Leader team must be able to be flexible and patient, as ISO is a demanding and fast-paced work environment. Orientation Leaders are expected to actively engage with students and families while providing a welcoming environment for all new Penn Staters. iSOLs serve as a college para-professional and an extension of the Office of Global Programs staff. Interested applicants must be a current full-time Penn State Abington undergraduate student who plans to be enrolled at Penn State Abington in academic year 2020-2021 and has maintained a minimum 2.5 GPA. Successful candidates must participate in training sessions/workshops during the Spring 2020 semester. iSOLs must be available to work ISO Monday, July 20, 2020 through Friday, August 28, 2020. There should be no other commitments during this time. The average work week typically includes a 27 hour work week with early morning requirements. In accordance with the expectations of the International Student Orientation team, it is important that they agree to abide by the following: abide by The Pennsylvania State University Code of Conduct and attend the iSOL training program and attend all Orientation days, arrive on time, and stay for the duration of the day. Availability for the training sessions/workshops, and ISO dates is non-negotiable.
