Description

The laboratory of Mitchell Holland in the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Forensic Science Program, Penn State University, has an opening for a Researcher. The Holland laboratory is a leading research group in the field of mtDNA genetics and the application of mtDNA testing methods for forensic applications and is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their team of scientists. The main responsibilities of the candidate are the following: collection of DNA samples under an IRB approved protocol, DNA extraction of collected samples, PCR amplification of DNA extracts, library preparation for massively parallel sequencing (MPS) on a MiSeq, analysis of MPS data, maintaining the laboratory, and training students. Ability to work independently and with others is essential. A Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, along with prior experience in a molecular biology laboratory, is required. Applicants with a Master`s degree are encouraged to apply and may qualify as an Assistant Research Professor.
