Description

The Transduction Device and Array Development Department in the Sonar Research and Development Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a motivated and talented Engineering Support Specialist to joining our team. This position supports testing a variety of sonar transducers and sonar systems at the on-site sonar calibration facility. Responsibilities include: conducting acoustic tests according to specified procedures; managing the traceable calibration of various acoustic and electrical systems; troubleshooting and repairing test equipment; supporting the engineering staff with the layout, design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of sonar system components; and assisting in the selection and procurement of materials and components. This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Associate's degree or higher in a technical program or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. An Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electromechanics is desired. Prior experience with sonar or underwater acoustics; conducting experimental tests; transducer calibration procedures; and proficiency with LabVIEW and MATLAB preferred. Required experience includes: Electronics/electromechanical assembly, testing, and troubleshooting; computer literacy; and operating basic electronic test equipment.
