Description

The Transduction Device and Array Development Department in the Sonar Research and Development Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a motivated and talented Acoustic Test Facility Engineer to join our team. This position will develop and integrate hardware and software for testing a variety of sonar transducers and sonar systems at the on-site sonar calibration facility. Responsibilities include: Design and implementation of mechanical/electrical hardware systems used to test sonar devices; developing software for automated testing, data reduction, and results reporting; developing and documenting test systems; analyzing test data; and occasionally conducting tests and calibrations. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher , or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics or Physics is desired. Prior experience with sonar or underwater acoustic, experimental instrumentation design (buffer circuits, filters, etc.) and signal processing is preferred Required experience includes: electronics/electromechanics layout; operating electronic test equipment (function generators, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.); proficiency in LabVIEW and MATLAB.
