Description

The Black School of Business at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position in accounting in August 2020. Candidates must have obtained either a Ph.D. or Doctorate of Business Administration in accounting by appointment date to be considered. Applicants with research and teaching in all areas except tax will be considered. At least one year of industry/public accounting experience and/or professional certifications, such as CPA, are preferred. Both high-quality teaching and an active program of scholarship are expected of all members of the Penn State Behrend faculty. The Black School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business(AACSB) International, listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review and offers 9 undergraduate majors; a part-time/evening MBA program delivered at two locations; a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc); and an online program in Masters in Project Management (MPM). The School has a focus on interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Business & Engineering Studies degree - one of only a few such distinctive programs in the country - and an International Business degree, which also allows students to specialize in a functional area such as business economics or finance. The Black School of Business shares a new $30 million facility with the School of Engineering providing a basis for a multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million endowment, the market value of which is approximately $33 million today, provides significant support for the School’s programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs, and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives. Teaching responsibilities: This position may involve teaching in the University’s on-line and hybrid MPAcc/MBA program as well as future hybrid or online programs. Research Support: Includes summer research support, computing support for individual faculty members, full access to major statistical packages and databases, as well as funded travel to professional meetings. The University is an SAP Alliance partner and the Black School has an educational alliance with Oracle. Both SAP and Oracle functional databases are available for use by faculty and students. A partial listing of available databases includes WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eventus, Lexis-Nexis, I/B/E/S, PHLX data, NYSE TAQ, PACAP, Bureau von Dijk, Datastream and Worldscope. Salary: Negotiable and competitive with AACSB-accredited schools of business. Location: Students and faculty enjoy the beauty of the college’s 854-acre campus, located minutes away from the heart of Pennsylvania’s fourth-largest city. Metropolitan Erie has a population of over 280,000 and provides a variety of recreational and cultural activities year-round. Erie is located at the intersection of major interstate highways nearly equidistant between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Local airport service is available in addition to easy access to the three international airports – all within two hours.
