The Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences (NBS; at the Penn State College of Medicine, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position for a clinician/scientist (Ph.D., M.D., or both) with expertise as an established scholar in the study and/or treatment of substance use disorder and addiction. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with human clinical trials research and also may maintain a basic science research program in the study of substance use disorder and addiction. As such, we expect that this colleague will play a key role in facilitating interactions between clinical and basic science faculty across colleges, departments, centers, and institutes and in furthering translational research in the study and treatment of substance use disorder and addiction. The Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences consists of 17 preclinical faculty scientists across all ranks, and numerous joint faculty from the Departments of Anesthesiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nutritional Sciences, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, Psychiatry, and Radiology. As such, the Department serves as the intellectual hub for neuroscience for basic science faculty, and especially for our clinical faculty. The successful applicant will join a community of scholars at Penn State contributing to the mission of the new Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse and will have an opportunity to play a leadership role in the Consortium and collaborate with faculty in its foundational centers of excellence. This individual also will be able to take advantage of the Department’s close ties with the Penn State Addiction Center for Translation (PS ACT), Penn State Neuroscience Institute, and Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute The individual appointed to this unique position will be encouraged to seek a joint appointment in the Departments of Psychiatry or Neurology and the graduate faculty so she or he can teach and mentor graduate and/or medical students.
