Description

The Department of Animal Science at The Pennsylvania State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Professor and Department Head. This individual will play a key role in developing future growth directions for an internationally recognized faculty that encompasses the disciplines of nutrition, physiology, genetics and genomics, reproductive biology, meat science, animal management, and behavior. The Department seeks a dynamic and innovative leader who is dedicated to promoting excellence in and advocating for our diverse teaching, research, extension, and outreach programs. The successful candidate should have a broad vision for the Department, be committed to enhancing the strength and cohesiveness of its programmatic areas, and value and foster its basic and applied contributions to animal agriculture. The candidate is expected to coordinate the department’s contribution to College and University-wide strategic planning initiatives, exhibit a strong focus on students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and develop productive relationships with the numerous stakeholder groups. In addition, the candidate’s ability to articulate, build broad support, and lead fundraising efforts for new initiatives will be valued. The candidate should demonstrate an exceptional record of scholarship and be qualified for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. The successful candidate must have a distinguished record of scientific and educational accomplishment in an area encompassed by or related to the Department’s diverse faculty expertise (https://animalscience.psu.edu/) and must hold a Ph.D. in animal sciences or closely related field. Experience in academic, administrative or professional leadership, and the ability to actively support and promote the College’s diversity goals within the department is a requirement. In addition, the candidate should possess effective communication, consensus building and interpersonal skills.
