The Research Office IT Director for the Undersea Systems Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a Systems Administrator to act as an embedded cross-functional Information Technology (IT) resource providing systems administration and computing support services for the enablement of key research and administrative functions. This position will focus on ensuring the security, compliance, functionality, and reliability of research and administrative systems through specialized guidance, establishment of process, and hands on configuration and support of computer and network equipment. Responsibilities include: ensuring proper operation, configuration, and administration of computing and network hardware and software; providing broad scope IT support for research related operations; generating and maintaining system and process documentation; providing assistance to researchers to accommodate integration of security and compliance into research systems and operations. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate’s degree in Information Science and Technology or Computer Science is desired. Preferred experience areas include: Automating management of Windows and Linux system configuration/policy via scripting and other automation and orchestration tools. Required experience areas include: Advanced knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems; development of secure Windows and Linux system baseline configurations; and operating and providing systems administration and support in a high-security research computing environment with experience supporting research related software and hardware. Successful applicants will possess strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with inherent professionalism and exceptional customer service. Requires a current favorable TS clearance (Tier 5 investigation) and a current maintained Department of Defense (DoD) 8570 IAT Level II certification (CCNA Security, CSA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+, or SSCP).
