Penn State DuBois is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking professional to join the Advising Office Staff. Reporting to the Academic Advising Manager and under the supervision of the Associate Director of Academic Affairs, the Academic Adviser will work in the Advising Office within the One Stop Office Suite at PSU DuBois and provide academic advising to undergraduate students. The primary responsibility of this position will be providing academic advising to undergraduate exploratory students, and to students in other Colleges interested in exploring majors, or on an as needed basis. The Adviser interprets academic policies and procedures to students, faculty and staff, resolves procedural academic problems, monitors progress of student advisees, and maintains confidentiality of student records. This position assists the Advising Manager as a first point of contact for all faculty advising practices and training. Information regarding advising is prepared and disseminated by the Academic Adviser to a variety of audiences. Under the direction of the Advising Manager, the Academic Adviser is also responsible for preparing and implementing all New Student Orientation Phase 1 activities on campus. The Adviser will serve on various committees regarding retention, and in collaboration with the advising manager, develop, implement, and assist in assessing a retention plan for the campus. The Academic Adviser will also assist the Advising Manager on developing a campus wide advising assessment process for faculty and staff. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in college advising is a plus. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organization skills with the ability to manage concurrent projects is critical. Standard background checks are required. Penn State DuBois, one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide, is situated in north central Pennsylvania about 70 miles west of State College/University Park and 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. It is a commuter campus comprised of approximately 600 students. The student-centered faculty and staff are dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning. Class sizes are small, and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Since opening its doors in 1935, thousands of degree-seeking individuals have received a world-class education delivered in a friendly, small campus setting. The campus offers 6 Baccalaureate degrees, 8 Associate degrees, and the first 2 years of over 160 Penn State undergraduate degree programs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
