Description

The Systems Design Department in the Sonar and research Development Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking an Electrical Engineer whose designs will cover a broad range from high speed digital to analog to power. Responsibilities include: work with mechanical engineers to develop packaging systems to comply with shock, vibration and thermal constraints; use schematic capture and Printed Circuit Board (PCB design tools to implement your designs and/or work with dedicated drafters; develop test procedures and perform testing of systems and sub systems. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred. Preferred experience includes: proficiency with Altium, Matlab, Python, C/C++ and experience with processors/micro-controllers. Experience with the following is required: ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings; previous experience with electronics bench testing, assembly/re-work, test equipment, firmware/software; maintaining, updating and helping develop Technical Data Packages (TDP’s) that include Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and fabrication procedures. Communication skills, including ability to collaborate with team members within and outside department required. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation.
