Description

Penn State Outreach and Online Education is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Database Specialist. The successful candidate enjoys solving problems and providing solutions in a collaborative environment, keeping an open mind, exploring new technologies that solve challenges, and offer quality solutions to clients is key to this position. Responsibilities include planning, designing, performance tuning and implementation of cloud-based solutions, databases, web environments, and high-availability systems. Will work in an dynamic environment that continuously promotes growth, knowledge and a drive to success. We seek candidates who are able to demonstrate experience and the ability to advance Outreach’s diversity initiative. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, have strong system database skills, identify and solve problems independently, handle sensitive data professionally, have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. The ideal candidate should be able to draw from previous experience to demonstrate competency in the following required skills: Design and delivery of database, integration, and web environment according to best practices; ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize with limited supervision; and ability to assess and identify potential system enhancements on business objectives, software performance, etc. Must have experience MongoDB, MySQL, SQL Server, Redshift, Linux, Windows, SSIS, Power BI, SSRS, SSAS, Replication, Always-On, T-SQL, Performance Tuning, Splunk, and SolarWinds. Experience with Redgate suite, CI/CD, DevOps, Git, Jenkins, and/or No Code SQL, PowerShell is a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of re-funding.
