The Enterprise Applications Department at The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a Database Administrator to provide SQL Server and Oracle database management and administration for Classified and Unclassified enterprise systems as needed. Responsibilities include: Install, configure, and upgrade database software on classified and unclassified network environments; test new database releases and determine the impact of installation on existing production systems and STIGS; manage and control database structures to maintain database integrity, accuracy, security, and performance efficiency; port over unclassified data structures from unclassified environments to classified environments; review, recommend and implement the design of programs accessing ARL's databases to ensure the storage, security, selection, and retrieval of information in a logical and orderly manner; respond to service outages and other day-to-day problems; perform database maintenance (patches, upgrades) and auditing; design and develop databases and database code (store procedures) for new application and functionality on the classified/unclassified networks; and maintain database usage, monitoring, backup, and recovery procedures. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related field is desired. Experience in the following is preferred: Red Hat; Enterprise Linux; Oracle Linux; VMware; ESXi; Sun Server; Solaris; Windows Server; General Unix; DEC VAX/VMS; and Mac OS X Server. Experience requirements include: Oracle RDBMS; Microsoft SQL Server; SQL Developer Toad for Oracle; Toad Data Modeler ; and SQL Navigator.
