The Pennsylvania State University – Abington College invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Community or Commercial Recreation Management within the newly adopted Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Management (RPTM) degree program offered through the Abington-Greater Allegheny-University Park Consortium. Candidates must have an earned doctorate (or an earned doctorate by the date of appointment) in recreation, leisure studies, tourism, natural resource management, or a related field and evidence of an active and focused research program. A commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, both inside and outside the classroom, is also essential. Candidates who have experience teaching both lower level and upper division courses in their area of expertise are preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse student populations and demonstrate interest in facilitating student/faculty research and mentoring. The teaching load is 3-3 with a portion of courses offered online across multiple campuses. Preference will be given to individuals who have direct experience in the recreation, park, and/or tourism field; industry or agency relationships; a strong publication record; and whose research activities show evidence of student collaboration. We seek scholars whose research fits within the larger mission of the program (i.e., address social problems, foster sustainability, influence policy, and/or promote health). Opportunities to collaborate with and pursue funding alongside colleagues at other Penn State campuses, including University Park, are available and encouraged. Internal funding is available for research purposes as well as faculty and student conference travel.
