Description

The Communications Systems Division of the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is looking for motivated and talented Research Faculty whose primary function will be to research, design, develop, integrate, and test advanced wireless RF communications systems. Responsibilities include: Algorithm and/or software design, develop C/C++ or equivalent code to interface with developed hardware and associated interfaces (SPI, I2C, etc.); integration of Software Defined Radio (SDR) hardware/software components as appropriate; evaluate/develop communication security protocols; and MATLAB/LabVIEW modeling and simulation. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Prior experience with the following is highly desired: Computer Networking; communications protocols - OSI stack, UDP/TCP/IP; familiarity with wireless specifications such as cellular (4G/5G)/WiFi (802.11); and basic RF principles, embedded software/hardware, wireless/cyber security, C-Language programming experience.
