Description

The Okafor lab in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Pennsylvania State University has an opening for a level 2 Research Technologist. Our group uses a wide range of molecular biology, cellular, and biochemical approaches to study protein function and structure. The ideal candidate will be a valuable member of our team, playing a strong role in the success of our daily operations. Responsibilities will include performing a variety of defined biological experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. Experiments may include cloning, molecular biology, biochemical assays, tissue culture, protein over expression and purification, RT-PCR, and more. May assist in protocol design; investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by PI; assist in planning and scheduling research procedures; analyzes and interprets results of studies; demonstrate and train others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment; calibrates, troubleshoots, and performs routine maintenance of equipment. Perform laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization, ordering of supplies, inventory, media and buffer preparation, reagent preparation, and more. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's of Science degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or a related field with additional years experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred. Prior experience with protein over-expression and purification, cloning, and tissue culture is preferred.
