Operate research farm equipment, such as tractors, tillage equipment, harvesting equipment, small bulldozers, planting equipment, trucks and various farm and research equipment normally found on an agronomy research farm. Perform service, maintenance and major overhaul work to the field complement of machinery used at the agronomy farm. Paint, lubricate and make necessary adjustments, as required. Fabricate and build specialty machines and equipment used at the agronomy farm, such as planters, harvesters, dryers, etc. Weld, cut, grind, tool, and perform blacksmith work as required. Assist in planting, harvesting, collection and recording of data of research plots. Weigh and separate seeds, forage and soil samples as directed. Weigh, mix, and apply herbicides and insecticides, as required. Secure requests for irrigation and provide as requested to the following departments: Agronomy, Plant Pathology and the USDA Pasture Lab. Regulate water pressure for uniform coverage and rate and safety of the system. Service, maintain and keep current inventory of the irrigation system. Perform routine maintenance and repair work on buildings and facilities. Replace wood, wash windows, paint, weed and mow grass. Load and unload fertilizer, soil, and other supplies. Assist in greenhouse, agronomy and soil laboratories. Grind and weigh samples, evaluate seed lots, clean laboratory equipment and make routine calculations. Clear brush and stones, cut firewood, remove snow, as required. Perform other duties related or similar to the type described above. Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training, and familiarity with precision agriculture techniques and equipment. Requires a Pennsylvania Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) Class A with air brake restriction L lifted, and a Category 18 Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator`s License. Over 1 year and up to and including 3 years of effective experience. Shift: 7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. Days Off: Saturday, Sunday NOTE: EMPLOYEE MUST BE ABLE TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO MEDICAL CLEARANCE. THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS AS PER 67 PA CODE 231.85. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS
